Internal jugular central venous catheterization: a focus on the procedure

چکیده
Central venous catheterization (CVC) is very common procedure in the emergency department and intensive care unit. Although patients undergoing CVC may have various indications contraindications for this catheterization, typically similar, regardless of route. However, site-specific precautions also exist. This report describes overall with access by internal jugular vein. Neurologic complications such as stroke cranial air embolism, well mechanical hemopneumothorax hematoma, can occur related to approach CVC. Clinicians should be aware these concerns population.

Dilemma during ultrasound‐guided internal jugular venous catheterization
The presence of Internal Jugular Valves can pose a diagnostic and procedural challenge during ultrasound-guided cannulation. After ruling out dissection, thrombus, or ultrasound artifacts, it can still be accessed and successfully cannulated with appropriate precautions including use of Live ultrasound, positioning, use of soft-tipped catheters, and minimizing duration of catheter placement.
متن کاملCephalad malposition after central venous catheterization through right internal jugular vein
provided the original work is properly cited. CC Central venous catheterization is performed in the operating room, intensive care unit and emergency room for various reasons. Internal jugular vein is preferred in the operating room due to little chance of pneumothorax and straight route for catheterization to the right atrium. We experienced a case of central venous catheter malposition to cep...
متن کاملVertebral artery thrombosis and subsequent stroke following attempted internal jugular central venous catheterization.
Complications arising from internal jugular venous catheterization are uncommon. Injury to the carotid artery is reported as one of the more common injuries. Vertebral artery injuries are rare and include pseudoaneurysm formation, arteriovenous fistulas, lacerations, and dissection with thrombus formation. Occasionally, such injuries initially go unnoticed and have the potential to cause catast...
متن کاملA failure of internal jugular vein catheterization caused by the internal jugular vein occlusion
provided the original work is properly cited. CC Central venous catheterization is frequently used as the procedure for preparation of major surgery, chemotherapy, total parenteral nutrition, and etc [1]. Usually, the catheterization sites are femoral vein, subclavian vein, and internal jugular vein (IJV). Because the right IJV has easy accessibility, and it gives direct route for right atrium ...
متن کاملDelayed Airway Obstruction after Internal Jugular Venous Catheterization in a Patient with Anticoagulant Therapy
Delayed onset of neck hematoma following central venous catheterization without arterial puncture is uncommon. Herein, we present a patient who developed a delayed neck hematoma after repeated attempts at right internal jugular venous puncture and subsequent enoxaparin administration. Progressive airway obstruction occurred on the third day after surgery. Ultrasound examination revealed diffuse...
